I found the toon inane and then read the first post which goes far further in that direction.

Before this predictably takes off in partisan directions allow me to point out that in his latest interview for The New Yorker, President Selfie says his detractors AND his supporters are both racists. Pretty much covers anybody reading this cartoon imho.

Starting off with “Kenyan” isn’t racist? The simple fact is that neither current “conservatives”, or “old school” Democrats are immune to racist sentiments. Nice to know there is nothing racist about our wars on Afghanistan, Iraq, and aiming at Iran… sectarianism is just another form of racism when you look at the way it’s linked in our media, and hypemasters texts.

CDK: a good friend in ’65 was from Kenya, in fact his father was Minister of Commerce at the time, he went on to become a physician instead of a physicist.

Another friend from South Africa, a dentist, is very Caucasian,, and now an American citizen, so does that make him “African American”??

The fact is, labels are often idiotic, and suck for accuracy!

The president does not use the race card. Mike Lester does, and it’s disgusting.

_ President Selfie says his detractors AND his supporters are both racists. _

That’s an interesting spin on Obama’s comments, but not really accurate. Obama admitted that some people oppose him or support him, in part, because of his skin color. Let’s at least have the integrity to post a link to the article:

    http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2014/01/27/140127fa_fact_remnick?currentPage=all

It’s very possible to oppose Obama on the basis of his policies. I presume most of his serious political opponents aren’t concerned with his complexion, but many are willing to pander to racists like Doctor Warbucks.

How many of Obama’s “racist” supporters embraced Alan Keyes or Herman Cain because of their skin color?

I think I speak for most of us when I say, I appreciate your willingness to engage your audience.

    Joe, well, no, it isn’t.

Kenyan is a geographical identification, not a racial designation.

While “Non-Africans (Arabs, Asians, and Europeans) only form about 1% of the population,” then one could assume that a significant portion of the 400K non african inhabitants could be “white”….

    They would still be Kenyan.

    Get it?

This is the comment I found:

“There’s no doubt that there’s some folks who just really dislike me because they don’t like the idea of a black President,” Obama said. “Now, the flip side of it is there are some black folks and maybe some white folks who really like me and give me the benefit of the doubt precisely because I’m a black President.”

If this is what the hoopla is about…I gotta admit I can’t fault him for saying it. He says SOME folks who just really dislike me because he’s black. And there are probably some. And he acknowledges the reverse: that SOME people let him skate because he’s black. And he’s right. There are some who fall into one of those two camps. Some examples of both can be seen on this board. I see more of it from his supporters here than I do his detractors, but they’re both out there.

It simply comes down to this: His approval rating should be based on his work. His work has been pretty bad so he has a low approval rating.

Well done. You just described the cartoon: “It’s the economy stupid” -BClinton.

I have no problem with the veracity of his remark. My problem was with him issuing it in response to a question regarding his falling approval rating. Remember, this is a President who enjoyed approval ratings close to 70% early in his Presidency— a rating concidered high for ANY President, historically speaking. To then bring racism up when confronted with it’s precipitous decline— as if those who approved his performance before but now do not have suddenly become racists— some of whom actually voted for him— strikes me as arrogant and shows an obliviousness to the unpopularity of his policies.

As far as the race card goes, I’ve seen very few instances of Mr. Obama personally using it. He has hundreds of surrogates and sycophants to do that for him.

I think it’s safe to assume that racial animus was an important factor for a big chunk of the 30% who didn’t approve. It’s also fair to point out that Obama got more support from blacks because of his racial background.

    @Bruce4671

There are about 5,000 Kenyans of European ancestry among a population of 41 million. That 0.00012195121 percent figure is about the same as the chance that Warbucks wasn’t race baiting.

Looks like he’s already been banned. No loss, imo.

your math is off a tad but I’ll concede the point.

    bottom line.

There are “Kenyan” people who are NOT “black” ( I dislike that nomenclature because there are very few people that are truly black) but are of mixed ethnic ancestry.

Certainly some here (uh I think you are included but that is just my opinion) that “race bait”.

When – pray tell – will we as HUMANS understand that there is only one race the HUMAN one?
