    One must admire the 1%ers this: how they manage to get some of the 99%ers to do their bidding and warring and support their 1%. Fascinating.

    @omQ R

    It has often been stated, OmQ-BV-R, that all Americans hope to one day be a One Per Center. If you tax, or in anyway regulate, the ability of the rich to stay rich and become richer, then when “we” invent the next big thing, or win the lottery, or in some way become very wealthy, we punish ourselves in advance of our good fortune.
    Billionaires MUST be protected because one day, I too, will be a billionaire.
    Your comment is a sad truth and reflects badly on a nation who daily pledges to be “One nation under God with freedom and justice for all”, especially, since without money, the ability to enjoy freedom or afford justice, is very limited.
    Always good to see your comments, OmQ. Hope you had a great New Years.
    Respectfully,
    C.

    @Genome Project

    Hello GP,
    There were shoe shine stands in at least two of the four airports through which I walked on my way to and from CA. The prices listed were between six and eight dollars with boots costing a bit more.
    None were being used at the moment I passed, but looked clean and ready for use.
    Respectfully,
    C.

    The ’toon shows one extreme, which is silly. Also silly is the other extreme, with lords/robber barons and serfs, and no one in between. They were called the Dark Ages for a reason.

    As is often the case, moderation is the best policy; extremes almost always cause unnecessary grief.

    @Truist

    Thank you for that link, Truist. I had heard a bit of the Madoff settlement. Have you heard if the gov’t is going to allow JP Morgan to write off some of their fines on their taxes? That was still up in the air last I heard.
    Thank you for your frequent civil and thoughtful comments.
    Sincerely,
    C.

    @Overtaxed

    Just curious, have you ever posted anything on this forum without the word socialist in it? It really is a mind-bender trying to follow your logic in your word salad without the constant railing against the imaginary socialists running amok all around us. Heck, according to you, it’s why we don’t have full service at gas stations, now.
