   In combat, or hunting, folks know about “fields of fire”. in a crowded classroom, or theater, more guns, in the hands of “folk”, just means more random targets. BTW, NRA doesn’t want you to know that in over 90% of cases where a “victim” confronted an armed suspect, the “victim” gets shot. Fortunately, not all die, but enough.

   I respectfully ask as a foreigner why people live in a place that in order to feel safe they need to own and carry firearms.

   My Father taught me how to shoot on our farm, where we needed firearms for vermin control and to bring down dangerous livestock. He was a WWII veteran with horrendous bullet wounds the size of teacup saucers, and I am a good shot.
   My Brother is an ex-soldier, still lives on the farm, his wife now shoots the vermin, and he teaches firearm safety to the local police force.
   Guns are great, but there is no reason to carry them if you are in a safe place, and if the place is not safe, how can you raise your children there?

    It took the anti gun lobby all of 15 seconds to rationalize that this wanton act of violence was as a direct result of our gun crazed culture. The sad reality is that there is nothing we can do to prevent these types of tragedies as the cure would no doubt be far worse than the disease.

    I guess it wouldn’t matter to mention how colorado has among the loosest gun control laws in America. For instance, colorado actually PROHIBITS the registering of your gun.

    As long as people think the solution is more gun control/restrictions, the problem of nuts going off and doing such horrendous acts will never come close to being solved. Same goes for those claiming this type thing could have been stopped if some of the people in the audience had been armed.

    Getting or forcing help for someone with mental problems is the real underlying problem here. Hardly anything can be done before they act under our present legal system or hesitancy to say any thing for fear of repercussions.

    I don’t think it helps to make guns accessible. Truly, I think it’s a very bad idea.

    However….!

    Obviously there’s more to it than a gun. There’s a whole society that revels in violence and makes anti-heroes of the *********’s who carry out these emotionally backward stunts.

    If you’re a weakling loser looking for some validation …and you can grab a gun….well, this is what you do, and the TV stations give you nickname and everything…and you get your own wikipedia page….etc…..

    …..all that is a BIG problem!
