    Do republicans think that a minor who is brought into the country by a parent is guilty of breaking the law; and that a just punishment for that alleged crime is to be deported?
    I think that would be cruel and unusual punishment, and Obama is upholding the constitution by preventing it.


    In addition, the President “shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States,” so he is allowed to pardon any of those alleged illegals.


    As is usual with the republicans, everything is its opposite. Upholding the constitution becomes dictatorship

    @hw- Yes, that’s exactly what I think. Laws should be obeyed or repealed- not simply “ignored” by presidential edict. And no, I don’t think these “youngsters” (up to age 30) should have the “Right” to get a legal job – or any other Rights of an American citizen. Harsh? Sure. But as long as we keep rewarding people for violating our immigration laws, we have no way of stopping the flood of illegals which has already become an unsustainable burden on our system.

    According to our constitution, the executive branch of government is charged with enforcing the laws that are passed by the legislative branch. If zippy is not going to enforce the laws of this country, then he is acting as a dictator and needs to be removed. Preferably by election, but by impeachment if necessary.

    The minor didn’t break the law, the parents who brought him/her are breaking the law. Add the burden of Americans then having to pay for their healthcare and school while the parents work for cash and not pay into the system is illegal.
    Reagan did amnesty legally through congress. Obama is just trying to add 800,000 new voters to his ticket.

    Righties always try to distract from their responsibility for all the economic misery and destruction their policies create. The unemployment we’re experiencing is from their failed trade policies and Union busting and encouraging illegal immigration to lower wages. (They do jobs business doesn’t want to pay Americans to do.) So they imply Obama is ignoring the unemployed to bestow benefits on illegals when actually it is the Republicans who block any meaningful policies to help them. Very patriotic.

    President Obama’s statistics on deportation of illegal aliens are impressive. And his policy of focusing on CRIMINAL illegal aliens makes a lot of sense to me. By implementing this new policy he frees up resources to go for the bad apples and get rid of them. He also forces Congress to finally do something (that DREAM-act has been in limbo for quite some time). Face it: your country is one of immigrants and you could not survive without the cheap labor they provide. All the WASP out there claiming otherwise are just racists…

    All he is doing is saying qualified applicants are safe from prosecution for two years. They won’t be eligible to vote in November.


    He is cleverly showing he is sympathetic to the plight of these people, and tricking the far right into going on record as wanting to continue to treat them as criminals.

    The other night, CBS news featured a young lady graduating . from UCLA. A school where it is very hard to get accepted. What bothers me is, did she get scholarships or other financial help that should have gone to a legal potential student? Did she prevent that legal student from being enrolled by taking a limited available spot?
