Mr. Obama has failed to take the example of Jefferson, Lincoln, and other Presidents who constantly invited opponents to the White House for dinner and drinks in order to discuss legislation. He has also placed more trust in his inner circle and close friends and failed to go outside of that comfort zone to seek advice and support except through speeches. I am disappointed. However…If the GOP sent a Civilty in politics bill to Mr. Obama, it was probably filled with additional items such as the Keystone Pipeline, greater restrictions on the right to choose, more tax breaks for the wealthy, the ability to donate more money to candidates, et al. In the end, with both parties acting as an oligarchy at odds with itself, there is only one true answer. We must give Presidents the Line Item Veto. It is the ONLY way Americans can see which party is acting on their behalf instead of on the behalf of special interests and political patrons. Harry Truman had a sign on his desk that said, “The Buck Stops Here”. The Line Item Veto would make that statement a fact and would put an end to legislation installed into bills anonymously, or added without debate and the President would take full responsibility… credit OR blame… for the laws that went into effect in our nation. Then Americans would really know for whom they should be voting. Respectfully,C.
