You know this is so right on. The press is more concerned about a man leaking private letters from the Pope then Religious Freedom.

Well, right. Forcing someone to pay for something that is a) against their religious believes and b) is optional… yeah. That’s legal. Riiiiiight.

But, back to the toon, the issue is that the media is all over the letters from the pope and is ignoring the 800 pound gorilla in the room that is the constitutional violation. The toon is saying how the media’s priorities are all jacked up.

He should get down from his self imposed cross.
The press is right, the nazi pope story is more important.

Birth control is no longer a religious or political issue. 95% of the USA uses birth control. Now it’s just a question of ego and tradition — time for the institutions (Roman Catholic Church and GOP) to fess up and join everyone in teh 21st century.

“Ramirez, I’m thinking about deleting you. The administration is not infringing on anyone’s religious freedom. You don’t have to use birth control if you don’t want to. If my girlfriend, for example, works in your Catholic hospital and she wants to use birth control, she can get access to it like other Americans. You do not have the right to impose your religious beliefs on her just because she works for you. Want a painfully similar comparison? America does not have the right to force you to perform gay marriages in your church. Your church, on the other hand, does not have the right to deny gays the right to marriage. Get it? It’s called separation of church and state. BTW You’re an amazingly talented artist. Too bad you’re so often full of feces”.

Sorry but telling some one to pay for it through an insurance agency is no different. I will force higher prices in other areas as it always does.

Stick to preaching, stay out of the health care business.
    Problem solved.

The press are focusing on those leaked letters because of the corruption and cronyism they expose in the Vatican.

So that means, the elderly, children and a few nuns are on birth control? WOW, who would have thunk?

When churches pay taxes, they might have a stronger argument for THEIR determining what the “state” can do???

I would love to know where he got that one to. If 95% of the populatilon used birth control the population in the US 310 million would drop to less then 1/2 in a generation or two.

If you’re going to run a BUSINESS then you have to follow the Federal guidlines and regulations like any other BUSINESS. Besides the LAW doesn’t say you HAVE to USE Birth Control ONLY that it has to be made available to those that wish to use it… and you’re not paying for their pills any more than they might be paying for a medication that you take but they don’t need or want…

The Catholic Church and many other denominations have clearly and consistently articulated – for decades – their positions against birth control (this is especially true for Catholics), abortion/abortion causing pharmaceuticals, etc. These positions are rooted in and developed from their established doctrines. It is a clear and fundamental violation of the 1st Amendment of the United States Constitution to require these entities to provide and pay for the things that absolutely violate their long-held religious conscience.

There is great reason that the 1st Amendment exists. If you support and allow religious freedoms to be abused and rejected, do not be surprised when freedoms of speech, press, petition, and assembly are restricted, too.
