Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Ramirez combines an encyclopedic knowledge of the news with a captivating drawing style to create consistently outstanding editorial cartoons.
"Editorial cartoons should be smart and substantive, provocative and informative. They should stir passions and deep emotions. Editorial cartoons should be the catalyst for thought, and frankly speaking, if you can make politicians think, that is an accomplishment in itself."

Well I’m not use to being the first to comment, so I’ll try to get this going in a different direction.
Since we look at these things because political cartoon are important to us, and often interesting since their job is distill complex issues in simple drawings, I think it would be interesting to comment between the way Conservative cartoonist present things and the way liberial cartoonist present things.
This cartoon is a good example of a Conservartive presentation. If you disagree with someone you don’t attack issues you attack him and how he looks. The idea is to present them as fat and ugly, or dumb and ugly so therefore there is no reason to listen to or discuss what they have to say.

Caricature is an artificial emphasis on some particular characteristic of the subject. It is often drawn to the absurd, as an insult. When people BELIEVE the caricature IS the individual, the negative propaganda intended is accepted in certain, less thoughtful, elements of the society. It then is expounded as fact by those inclined toward hatred and anger.
Caricature might also be drawn to represent a positive aspect of an individual, say a smile, or bright eyes, or intelligence, as say, Einstein is often portrayed in heavily lined wisdom, in caricature.
The more narrow-minded the cartoonist, the harsher the drawing and inference seems to be.

Who cares about the visual imagery? John Adams was short, bald, and fat, yet I LOVE him. He was a lion of courage, a man accorded voluminous praise during his long life by friends and enemies alike.
The cartoon’s MESSAGE is dead on. The idea Osama “created” 650,000 jobs… it makes me so angry I could scream. Because it is such an obvious, anti-intellectual FARCE. A bold-faced lie based on phony data which any intelligent ten-year-old could briefly analyze and start poking holes in.
Osama reminds me of those old Roman dictators who would appear before the crowds and straight-faced tell them that one of the gods appeared to him, and told him to do such-and-such, and fawned their approval.
The mainstream media is like those old Roman senators who SWORE that they saw pick-a-Caesar turn into a god and ascend skyward, before coming back down to Earth and levying a new tax, or whatever. (which was so common among roman senators trying to butt-kiss the various caesars I’m sure it became a joke amongst many of the citizens).

Scooter, were you awake at ANY POINT during “W”s presidency?? like when HE said God ordered him to be president?
Ken Warren said, 22 days ago
Scott I have to agree with dtroutma, if a lying President makes you sick you must have been bedridden for the past 8 years.

W never once even hinted that God ordered him to be President. Nor was he a habitual, pathological liar like Clinton, Osama, etc
i really seldom ever caught W saying anything I knew to be untrue. He was a very plain-spoken guy. Y’all lefties are so used to YOUR guys employing endless Newspeak that you call every person who speaks in a plain, straight-forward fashion “stupid.”
W sometimes spoke in pure political blather, especially when speaking either of or to other politicians. But i noticed whenever he spoke to the media or to people at a town hall somewhere, he kept things very plain and simple. I always understood what he meant, and easily 95% of what he said lined up with reality just fine. Not a hint of Newspeak in sight.
Guess that’s partly why y’all hated him so much…
W is an enigma, to me. He did way more harm to the GOP than good. Yet when I compare him to either Gore or Kerry, I can only shrug my shoulders and say “Things could have been MUCH worse.”
Osama’s Presidency is proving this. And the fact Osama will cause the GOP to win big in 2010–and maybe even 2012–doesn’t comfort me much.
I want REAGAN back. And Gingrich. And the entire ‘94 freshman congress…
These incumbents–especially in the Senate–are killing us. :(
PS all that Bush lacked to be a great President was support–statesmanship–from Congress. If Newt had remained speaker, Bush would have had a far better Presidency, and garbage bills co-written by Ted Kennedy and his ilk never would have seen the light of day, much less gotten passed on a “bi-partisan” vote…

A priest on his deathbed requested Obama and Gore to visit him. They both obliged but Gore had to ask Why did you call for us. The priest replied he always tried to live the life of Christ, and wished to die like Christ–between to liar thieves.

^This is unbelievably low for you, Howie. I’ve gotten the message that you are angry as h-ll at the outcome of the election, but you are now fueling on rancor, not reason. Calm down.
dtroutma said, 22 days ago
Hey, fennec, review my first post on this one, case made, in spades.
W was simple, a ton. So are those who supported him, and his rare, inane, appearances in public.
Bush also was widely reported when he stated “God” told him to invade Iraq. That sure went well.

Well, let’s see… Saddam HUSSEIN (hey that’s a familiar name, where do I keep seeing that lately?) was a guy who kept threatening to destroy Israel–the land God is on record as having given to the Jews; a guy who perpetrated many of the worst tortures and mass-murders to take place in the world since Hitler (gotta love stuff like Saddam raping a guy’s daughter right in front of her dad, then blowing the daughter’s head off before moving on to finish dad, yes he is DOCUMENTED to have done this and many other crimes); a guy who climbed to power atop a mountain of corpses, a guy whose sons had their own private “rape chambers” which both the kids AND dear old dad used frequently; a guy who basically became like an SNL skit from Hell about crazy, megemaniacal dictators, all while thumbing his nose at the UN and promising he would destroy the United States…
…all in all, I can easily believe God might have told “W” to put an end to Saddam once and for all, given not one world leader would lift a finger to stop Saddam’s madness otherwise.
Never heard W say that though, and I swore I was awake all during W’s Presidency, but whatever. I cheer W for invading Iraq. Now if only we would do the same to North Korea, Iran, toppling the world’s brutal dictators like dominos, behaving the way we did back in World War 2, when there WAS no “United Nations” and America simply strived to do what was RIGHT, and pretty mch 100% of America’s young males cheered rather than whined and moaned and sided with both America’s enemies and its traitor-political-party like they do now…

The only “record” giving Jews the land was written by, well, themselves. Reading some of the atrocities they committed themselves, and wrote up to show their power, is also rather creepy. Kinda’ like a lot of tyrants.
If we had NOT wasted time, money, and lives on Saddam,(starting in 91, when Bush 41 failed to stop him from invading Kuwait in the first place, instead merely stating “that is an Arab to Arab affair”.) far more jobs might have been created here at home, well if you discount all the jobs shipped overseas since Reagan, Cheney, the Bushes, and the crew set the “new model” for American “industry”.
But hey, how silly is it to worry about real history, when Ramirez et al can just make it up as they go?

What about the facts?
Whether you like or not, for the better part of the past 25 years our economy produced near a theoretical full employment.
The Stimulus HOAX was adopted as an emergency, to keep the unemployment below 8%, and to create or save 3.5 million jobs. It was lie then, and it is a lie now!!!
The only jobs that 0bama created, and has not yet taken credit for, are the thousands of lobbyists that flocked to DC, to help make the 0bama administration more transparent.

No fennec–the outcome of the election did not bother nor suprise me. However, most lefties posting here do upset me with their constant BS that everything is turning around BECAUSE of Obama and that which is still “wrong” is all Bush’s fault…and trout has become one of the worst.
