Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Ramirez combines an encyclopedic knowledge of the news with a captivating drawing style to create consistently outstanding editorial cartoons.
"Editorial cartoons should be smart and substantive, provocative and informative. They should stir passions and deep emotions. Editorial cartoons should be the catalyst for thought, and frankly speaking, if you can make politicians think, that is an accomplishment in itself."

The brilliant one is thinking, carefully considering all the options: to win the ‘right war’ or relabel it as a wrong war, or call it a police action …Taliban must be shaking in their sandals, and it also must be really good for the moral of our troops too.

Ramirez is one of our best political cartoonest. I seldom agree with him, but I always think about what he says. He sees the world different from how I see it, but he is honest and doesn’t march lockstep with the Conservatives – in fact I think the last 8 years have been hard on him because he has seen them get a chance to change things, and seen just how badly they messed things up.
9/11 was terrible but it united America but instead of using this to bring us together the Republicans used it to push through an agenda for the rich and powerful.
I admire the men and woman who, when sent back to Iran for 4 - 5 - 6 times still did their duty and went, but I am saddened that they were sent by a leadership that never provided them with the tools they needed, or with the leadership they deserved. Never forget that Iran had nothing to do with 9/11, and there were no terrorist in Iran, but we invaded them anyhow.
Afghanistan was an after thought, but our military leaders almost drove the Taliban out of Afganistan, and then Bush lost interest.
Now the Republicans are in a Win/Win situation. People have forgotten that the Repubicans got us into this mess so the Republicans can just sit back and critize Obama no matter what he does.
If sends in more troop they can say he isn’t sending enought, or sending too many, or not following the right policy. If he pulls out, then he is a defeatest, or has betrayed our troops and lost a the war on terrorism.
If you look into history you will find that in any war at some time the military leaders gave the politiicial leaders a clear picture of how the war was going, what needed to be done to win the war, and how much it would costs.
At which point the political leaders made a political dicision, and what they usually decided (most often they were correct) was that the public would not accept the cost and so they would let the war continue while they tried to find a acceptable way out.
I have no idea if the war in Afgahanisan is winable, or even what winning would be, but to whatever it is it will costs billions in dollars and thousands and thousands of American lives. Think of all the lives and money we wasted in Vietnam, are you ready to do that again? How is it supporting our troops to let them die in a pointless and useless war?
They are willing to die for America, let’s not waste their lives in vain, let us get out as soon as we can.

He is a good drawer, and occasionally raises valid points, but he’s nitpicking here. Obama spends a day or two on a trip abroad, lobbying for the US candidature for the olympics, and he makes a picture about how Obama doesn’t care about the troops in Afghanistan. Obama has already increased the forces in Afghanistan significantly and continued, if not expanded, operations in Pakistan (whether it was the right thing to do or not). He has done more in under a year than was done for several years before that.
It’s not just Ramirez, by the way - quite a few other artists have lampooned Obama for taking a day or two to go to Denmark. Imagine what would happen when, after debates on healthcare and climate change, foreign policy issues like Iran or the Middle East, and God knows what else Obama goes on vacation.

I’m happy Obama is in Denmark on a lightweight mission. Every day he’s gone is a day he’s not screwing up important things.

If only someone had thought to install Air Force One with equipment with which the President could communicate with Washington while in transit.
