    Corporate America offers us all the great stuff that we enjoy. If you feel “seduced” by them, that’s your problem.

    @pschearer, marketing is seduction. Some can resist, others can’t. But corporate America has as much a hand in seducing as consumers have in resisting.

    @JWF

    What I really hate is the things corporate America does that are nasty in other ways… They tell us to use 3 times as much soap to wash our clothes and dishes as needed so they can sell more, they make fabric softener that makes clothes feel soft because it decomposes the fabric so it wears out much much quicker then it would if it wasn’t used. The whole planned obsolescence they say doesn’t exist. I could go on and on but you get my drift…..

    Then there’s the real reason daylight savings now starts after Halloween and not before, as was the case for decades. It’s because starting it after Halloween means there is one more hour for trick and treating, thus more candy has to be bought and dispensed!

    Marketing is corporate persuasion. Big bucks spent to make even more money. Also useful for wars, invasions and other political actions the people would normally be against.

    T_Lexi: Sure, lots of places. Most gas stations, auto parts stores, they claim they are odor control, but a seasonal tie-in would probably boost sales. :-)
