cabrost, Jay Leno had one of those want ads on a “Headlines” segment of his new “Jay Leno Show.”
When Avis Rent-A-Car had its Nation Wide Reservations 800 number location in mid-town Tulsa, it also had a separate department for other types of 800 number calls.
That department was called “Product Services.” Except for the managers, all of those who sat at the carrels with a computer in front of them and a headset on answered the calls were employees of a temp agency.
The carrels were connected in circle like clusters. One day there was lull for several minutes where I was working and most of us stood up to stretch a little. One guy said, “Operators are standing by.”

I like the ad which starts,
“Tired of making only $8 an hour?”
Then at the bottom it reads,
“pays $5 to $6 an hour.”
