That’s funny, cause when I’m at weddings like that, I can’t help but pay more attention to the awful bridesmaid dresses than the bride.

Tell her you refuse to wear the bow.

Whoever thought of matching bridesmaid dresses, anyway? Why not have your best friends wear whatever they look best in when they stand up with you? Saves a lot of time, money, and nerves, too.

Because, Anat622, it also can look REALLY awful in photos, among other reasons.

My mother-in-law made my bridesmaid dresses and they were hot little blue numbers. My sister and best friend loved them and since I was an ugly bride of course they looked better, but I didn’t mind cause it was still my day any way.

Look at it this way Forever, they looked cheap & trashy while you looked elegant & classy in your white, flowing dress.

Bridesmaids and groomsmen came from a really old belief that the devil will go after the first couple who walks down the aisle. In order to trick the devil the bridesmaids dressed EXACTLY like the bride and the groomsmen dressed like the groom. Because the bridesmaids and groomsmen were not married to each other (or anyone else), they made perfect decoys which is why the attendants walk down the aisle first. After a few hundred years, it changed so the bride wore a different dress but the tradition of the bridesmaids dressing alike stuck.

That’s so cool. Thanks, ejcapulet, for the explanation!

hey, at least by dumping the bow, she can get (theoretically) another use out of the dress…
