It takes two. One to give and one to take.

We should arm both sides and make a ton of money.

A lot of money has been made for years. Ike’s forecast was accurate.

Now have you matched up the cartouche carvings with the equipment they represent? If you can’t find them then maybe they aren’t out there yet. (The future yet to come.)

We helped them keep the Suez Canal after Nasser seized it from the Brits. That’s gotta count for something!

In the seventies, we did broker a treaty between Egypt and Israel.

Yes and that was why Egypt became an ally of both. But recently it has gotten very shaky. Looks like Obama is walking a razor tight rope. Lose/lose is in the cards for this.

Obama had a Muslim father, but not a Muslim upbringing. And he gets a lot more respect in the middle east than W did, and more than either McCain or Romney would have, because he actually listens to their concerns, helps when he can, and doesn’t like unnecessary wars. But Egypt is a lose-lose proposition. Now that the US is out of the violent-overthrow-of-democracy business, and getting cheapskated out of the international influence market by congress (our support for Egypt is a fraction of Saudi Arabia’s), there’s not much that could have been done by anyone.

“… he gets a lot more respect in the middle east than W did…”

There were plenty of sources to pick from, but I picked this one especially for you.

“According to a new poll released by the Arab American Institute, a nonpartisan research and advocacy group, and conducted by Zogby International, president Obama’s approval rating is currently lower than that of president Bush in his final year in office… This poll simply confirms and broadens the findings of a Pew poll…”
