Well, naturally. It is a Republican plan, something they were very willing to claim until Obama took it up as a desperate attempt to get SOMETHING passed. Obama’s first choice was a single-payer program — and in fact if we simply extended Medicare to the whole population it would be much cheaper. His second choice, people seem to have forgotten, was a nonprofit, self-funding, government-backed insurance company, which the insurance industry lobbied against, with the help of their supposedly “free-market” allies, the GOP.

Well, Ima, why don’t you ask Darrell Issa about his recently introduced bill H776? He has now “decided” that the Federal Health Benefits plan should be open to non-federal employees. Sure sounds like government health insurance to me! (Federal Times, issue delivered 3/7/13)

Obamacare is a really, really big deal. Not perfect, and still the most expensive in the world, but it’s the free-market solution to a serious problem that kills over 40,000 Americans a year. If you’ve got your own solution Ima (just kidding! of course you don’t!) we’d love to hear it. “Stay healthy, but if you don’t stay healthy, die quickly before you bankrupt your family.”

Maybe Obama’s plan was to make Obamacare, which was the Republicans’ initial proposal, so distasteful to them that they fight it and eventually propose universal health care themselves. Kind of like having that coworker or boss who won’t agree to anything unless you make it sound like they came up with the idea themselves.

I just finished scanning the Paul Ryan budget and it’s as much an unrealistic wish list as is the one by the Congressional Progressive Caucus’. No real numbers in either one but a lot of hype. What planet are these Congressmen and Senators from? Good Grief.

Problems with Ryan’s budget include that he used asssumptions from last summer, and things have changed since then.

From a couple of days ago, the article about crickets in Hawaii. I thought there must be a typo in the article that said only 35% of people can digest the sugar in milk.
Apparently that is close to being right for adults?
I was surprised at that number.

To tell the difference between a Republican and a Democrat: The Democrats are the party of no ideas. The Republicans are the party of bad ideas. Thanks to Lewis Black.

A glass of water sits on a table, half full/half empty of water.

The Democrat says: Wouldn’t it be nice if the whole world was able to get clean water, as much as we wanted, no matter the cost?

The Republican says: Hey! Who took the rest of my water?

Yep, that’s right. Lactose intolerance is very common; evidently the gene to process lactose developed first in Scandinavian countries (4% intolerant) and has spread from there. Asians are 90% intolerant.,geographical-distribution,is,5.jsp

Sad but true. Had he used that as his opening gambit in negotiation, maybe he could have gotten his second choice through. He’s not a good negotiator.

All of my relatives were Irish or (who knows where in Europe), so I had no idea how widespread the “problem” was.
