Term limits would have done NOTHING in the current scandals. They’ve done nothing positive where they’ve been tried. If you want turnover, the solution is to let candidates compete on a level playing field — eliminate gerrymandering, limit campaign contributions — not “affirmitive action” style firing of everyone regardless of competence.

@ARodney
Yeah, well, term limits are a quick fix, easily conprehended by the electorate, and require little, if any reinforcement. Are they better than nothing?
-
Elimination, or at least reduction, of gerrymandering in California has Republicans screaming and filing suits — Democrats are just screaming.
-
Campaign finance reform? Wasn’t that part of Newt’s Contract with America? Never even got a committee vote.

Didn’t know Twain hung around with the GOP.

Yeah, term limits, Wouldn’t want to hold the public responsible for who they vote for. And God forbid they should be able to hold on to a good one if they get one.

@walruscarver2000
Lobbyist already “help” the newly elected write and interpret bills. Term limits without some way of preparing new congress-people and senators , could work against the american people. I also realize it may in some ways be advantageous, but probably the negatives outweigh the positives.

@1opinion
Maybe, and I know this is radical thinking, maybe we should get rid of the lobbyist.
(last I heard,they outnumbered the members of congress.)
