I actually agree with Harley on this one. Some people truly need welfare and those types of programs to get by until they are able to get on their feet. It’s the ones who abuse the system that Harley is talking about (and they are out there). I think there needs to be regular/surprise inspections on the people who receive these benefits to ensure they are not defrauding the system.

Harley, the food stamp program is a subsidy for farmers and the food industry. The money spent by the poor to eat ends up in the hands of growers and sellers of food..they are the ones who get the money, the poor just get food…..

Huh? Can you then explain to me how the farmer gets the funds from the ag budget when over half goes to food stamps? Put that money in Health and Human Services where it belongs and it won’t even show up as support for the farmer.

Have any of you seen the new rap video showing the rapper (a well off dude no doubt) swiping his “EBT” card all over the place? Yeah, baby. Free money. Now, I have no problem with a single mom with 4 kids taking the opportunity to feed them at Micky D’s with an EBT card. Food is Food to me and everyone deserves a break now and again (LOL). But I have seen the occasional lady dressed in fine clothes and driving a new caddy swiping that EBT card at the supermarket as well. In the cart? Meat and potatoes. Back when they were actual stamps there was a brisk trade along the railraod tracks ( the railroad goes through many a project across this great land) and I know several people that bought food for a pal in exchange for other services with that EBT. Yeah, it is no doubt a great opportunity for fraud.

Anybody on the right want to answer where that “food stamp” money ends up? Well, grocery stores, farmers, and ranchers know. It’s much more a “spiff”, just like corn for ethanol, and other farm subsidies going to corporate “farmers” than the poor.

@writewing- Ok. I gotta ask. How can welfare credit cards be used in a casino? I thought they were for food??
