What the heck is this supposed to mean? I get the Johnny Depp part, yeah, I paid to see the movie. But the arrows? The father/daughter standing in the desert? Hmmmm.

The arrows indicate the federal inaction on funding Native American education. Since I’ve never seen a Native American with a mustache, the meaning of the presence of the man and the little girl becomes truly obscure. And the plane, presumably the federal government, being offended by Johnny Depp makes even less sense.

You are standing amid the ruin and waste of centuries of terribly flawed administrative policies regarding the aboriginal inhabitants of this continent, and are being told by higher intellects, viewing the scene from a greater perspective, that you should be offended by Johnny Depp’s portrayal of a Native American in Disney’s Lone Ranger. Because, you know, that’s the problem here.

    Good explanation, thank you!

Regarding the visual: i think this is supposed to be a “drop zone” where health and education would land, but instead they get this “order” to be offended. But the word “Be” is missing on the sign, so maybe I am wrong.

Matt must have had a bad day, it happens…

There is no need to say, “Be offended” when you are the popular majority. You simply say that you ARE offended, and the rest of the hive falls in line behind you. Can you imagine the horror of not believing the same as the popular folk? May as well be an independent instead of just saying you are one to be trendy.

So, here is what happened… Johnny Depp recently donated $25,000 to the Navajo Nation to be used for college scholarships. The tribe voted to allocate those funds to vocational education scholarships. But, predictably, public reaction regarding Depp’s donation is mixed. – See more at:

If only the natives got just half the money that is made from the exploitation of their culture…

Offending someone who does not wish to be offended is quite difficult, and usually requires the use of force or some other actionable civil offense.

I think the point is that after years of little support for Native American education and health, the best the rest of the country could do is act indignant about Depp’s portrayal of a Native American..

Did Hogans Heros exploit Germans? Should they demand money? Culture is not a copyright and Native Americans who have indeed been raped by the encroachment of Europeans on their land, have also damaged themselves, in large part because their own culture carried the seeds of their destruction.
