Versus the way it was done through political action commercials? Who really believes that someone can stop influence when on a bipartisan basis both sides spend money. We shall see how it rolls out, but so far it doesn’t seem to have that large an effect.

So true. Without Citizens United it would have been only liberal unions that were allowed to spend money.

Unions try to improve things for working people. Corporations try to maximize profits. In the union I belong to, you don’t have to contribute to the political fund. It is your choice. Corporations don’t give their workers similar choices.

Two Unions in Davidson County Tennessee cost an Aerostructures Union members ½ of their pay, and The UAW their jobs. How is the Union working to better these members?
Vought Union Members walked off the job in contract dispute.
After months of the Union manning the picket line outside the Employee Parking Gate with following Signage: “We have a Spine, we will never back down,” Vought Management went before the DC Labor Board, and showed the Labor Board the Contract the Union walked away from, Vought asked the Labor Board if Contract was fair, The Labor Board agreed it was fair. Vought Management then asked The Labor Board if they could hire replacement workers. The Labor Board gave the Green Light only after Vought gave the Union a deadline to be back to work. Vought gave The Union a deadline to be back to work, and they did come back to work after signing a Contract for ½ of the money they walked away from months earlier.
The UAW went on strike against Peterbilt, After months of the UAW refusing to talk with Peterbilt, Peterbilt went before Davidson County Labor Board, showed them the Contract the UAW turned down and they were granted permission to give the UAW a choice, be back on Production lines by set deadline or Peterbilt would move Production to their Non-Union Plant in Texas. The UAW Bosses told the Peterbilt Members that Peterbilt was bluffing to get the members to settle for less money. The UAW Bosses ordered the Union to refuse to return to production lines. The UAW Members did not report to Production Lines by set deadline and Peterbilt moved Production to Texas.
If this is how the Union improves things by losing jobs and money, No Thank You to Unions.

I have been working for Corporations since 1984, and not once have I been asked to contribute to a Political Fund.

Poor thing, you don’t know that money that might have been used for your raise was instead used by the corporation to ensure “business as usual”.

But you don’t mind bending over for them. After all, they’re “people”, and that money is “free speech”.

I did some research on what you said.

One thing that doesn’t make sense to me is a county labor board having the authority to tell a manufacturer that they were authorized to hire replacement workers. Wouldn’t that be the National Labor Relations Board?

I don’t know all the details of your examples. Clearly the unions did not get what they wanted. Nobody wins every time. That being said, the examples you give do not prove bad intent, or that most or all unions are bad.

Unions fought for the 40-hour work week, for health care, for sick days, for equal pay for women, and fought against child labor.

History, and current happenings, teach us that businesses and organizations will try to get as much labor out of their employees as possible, for as little pay as possible. Far too often the bosses say, “Work more, give back, or we’ll fire you, or move your job somewhere else.” Or the bosses say, “We can’t compete if you get good pay, health care, and a pension.” They get paid vast sums to exploit the workers, and they throw ethics and fairness in the trash.

Somebody has to stick up for the working people. The Republican Party is not sticking up for working people. The Democratic Party isn’t doing such a good job either. Where else can we turn?
