Here’s my POV. The concept of the DREAM Act is a good one — allowing people brought here as children to become citizens if they serve in the military or finish two years of college. However, the execution of the concept was poor, as I understand it. As usual, folks took the concept, then created loopholes and watered down the requirements so too many people could claim the benefit of citizenship without actually having to meet the intended requirements. I don’t really have a problem that the bill as written didn’t pass. I hope the next bill will be written more tightly and clearly to achieve the intent.
