An equal challenge for this generation. I wonder if they’re up to it.

(Can’tcha just hear the nay-sayers of Kennedy’s generation, “Oh. but it’s just so expensive….)

I don’t know what a trillion dollars equates to in 1969 dollars but, I’d guess that all of the Apollo missions combined were much cheaper.

Not that much, imo. I remember seeing that in current dollars, Apollo 11 cost something like 110+ billion.

Quite frankly, I would be surprised if Obama could get universal healthcare coverage for even 2 terms. The most I expect for this one is universal coverage for children and minors, and even that will be a serious feat.

4UK: I thought Obama already accomplished that (SCHIP), which my cigarette taxes are already funding (but I don’t think anyone else here is paying for).

    church,
ya just need to move near an Indian Res.

That IS from an Indian reservation! (only been using them since FL added $1/pack on top of the Feds. All this over-taxation will surely lead to a black market).

    But that wasn’t my point.

If my taxes (again, not yours) are going to fund a program to cover uninsured children (SCHIP), why is this newly insured group still included in the “uninsured” numbers?

@Church - no, SCHIP was expanded, but does not offer universal coverage to children afaik. Also, I believe it only offers partial assistance, not full coverage.

4U: Last I heard, SCHIP covered children up to 22 y.o and from families with incomes up to $88K/year. If it were expanded to “children” up to 35 y.o. and families of $250K/year, would that be “universal” enough for you?

I also think they get dr. visits and preventative medicine, if their guardians would seek it out (many don’t). Do they need to get house calls for you to consider it “full coverage”?

    (and what does “afaik” mean?)

EDIT: forget the afaik question: found it.

Minimum wage is about 7 times higher than it was then. The cost of living is about 17 times higher now than then : )

If the Republicans hadn’t wasted SIX HUNDRED TRILLION on Iraq we would have a little to spend on what Americans truly need.

The moon landing was a great leap ahead for our civilization.

Socialism is a great step backward.

Isn’t it funny that theis toonist likens the event where capitalism defeated communism to an event where communism/socialism is trying to defeat capitalism?

    Ahh, the irony …

CABROBST: Not that it will matter to your talking points, but that’s BILLION, not Trillion. Sort of like Nancy Pelosi saying 500 Million lose their job every month.
