Such paranoia! The NSA is at least as trustworthy as the IRS.

I really wonder why anyone thinks the NSA is listening to their personal phone calls? I guess they figure their lives are so interesting and important the government would want to know. Either that or they are screwing around and live in fear of others finding out what a dirt bag they really are.

If Bill Clinton’s phone data had been broadcast while he was Governor would people have been stupid enough to vote for him for president?

I suspect we can put the name of just about any elected official in that sentence & have it be just as relevant.

_ I guess they figure their lives are so interesting and important the government would want to know._

We already know some NSA people abused their power to spy on people close to them. Spies are generally spies by nature, imo.

The government has spied on & harassed groups & individuals in the past. J. Edgar Hoover would have given a limb for what the NSA has now.

    Today. Tomorrow may rain.
Just because your perfectly innocent actions aren’t seen as a menace to society and hostile to the administration today doesn’t mean that tomorrow’s society and administrations will hold the same values and regard the same actions as innocent and without the need of covert intervention.

In our pursuit of perfection, we will make sure that you have something to hide. Since we cannot be responsible for the failures of society, we will identify behaviors that are, such as your watching television or spending too much time on the internet or ordering take-out more than twice a month. We will not rest until those responsible for the failures of society are found and appropriately punished. Our ultimate goal is that whatever is not mandatory is forbidden, and whatever is not forbidden is mandatory.
Welcome, my son. Welcome to the Machine.

Nantucket19 has a pretty good response to this. I would add this is how things start. With people giving up small liberties because ’what’s the harm’ or ‘my party says it’s fine so it must be’. It’s easier to fight now than it will be once everyone is used to it.

If you remain in the center of the herd, the predators usually aren’t a problem.

At least until the predators pick off enough of the edges that where you are standing is the edge.

What can I say? I’m ornery. And I can think of better uses for my tax dollars.
