    Unless government action, the faintest possibility of societal harm or abuse justifies a legal remedy. Harmful and abusive laws are exempt from this because they, being the law, are above the law. A free people are their own legal authority in theory, but not in practice where others know better, what is good and what is evil. Superior morality presumes a divine right to rule as a matter of noble purpose.

    Here’s one to chew on, Matty… what if a grown man, let’s say he’s 40, falls in love with his son, who’s 22 (and the son feels likewise). Why not let the father get divorced, ripping apart the family, and marry his son? There’s no risk of any genetic mishap since they won’t naturally, biologically be able to have children. Anyone see any problem with that? According to all of the gay marriage supporters, this should simply be an issue concerning the rights of two consenting adults… right?

    What is it about the word “consent” that throws the right wing? Do they not understand that a son cannot give “consent” to a father? Do they not understand the difference between consent and child abuse? No one is going to marry their son or their goat or their car because marriage involves “consent” (unless the right wing wants to go back to the day when a daughter married whoever her father chose, as depicted in “Fiddler on the Roof”).

    Father still has a position of authority over the son. Anyway, why do you care? Is your marriage so bad that you think your wife will leave you the second she can marry a woman? Do you need to make yourself feel better by judging others?
