If people were all of one color, creed and political party, they would still vary in content of character sufficiently to cause bigotry and hate to flourish. Weeds are very hardy whereas nutritional plants are easily discouraged. Poor character would still be confused with group identity, just as good character is mistakenly presumed according to group identity.

About to be charged with “W.W.B.”
    Walking While Black.
That seems to be illegal in some places…

Of course, there are those that want to start working on their own Christian version of Sharia Law in congress…

@ ConservGov – the 911 operator told Zimmerman “do not follow him”. Zimmerman continued to follow the boy who may or may not have decided to “stand HIS ground” against an apparent stalker, rather than lead a stranger and predator to his house. Zimmerman did not “stand his ground” until after he had pursued Trayvon, got out of his car, and confronted the young man.
@ Ima – are you implying racism no longer exists, or are you suggesting only liberals are “racists” who practice class warfare? That would be an extreme position.
@ Brass Orchid – A short story I read forty years ago was a history told to a child by an adult. In the story, after years of war, all blacks, asians, and darker brown people had been killed. Then all light skinned non Christians were eliminated. Then the Protestants killed all of the Catholics and Atheists. As war continued, Lutherans, Pentecostals, Presbyterians Methodists, Baptists, etc fought among themselves. At the end of the story, we learn the people in the room hearing the story are the only people left alive on an earth poisoned by nuclear war and toxic waste released from industrial sites with no humans to maintain them. Mutated animals scratch at the walls outside of the room.
@ masterkrain – Thurgood Marshall related a story of how as a lawyer in the 60’s, he was waiting for a train in a southern town and a sheriff/deputy told him he had better be out of town by sundown. But we have become such a mean spirited people you can be attacked just for wearing the wrong sports team jersey in some cities. Breathing While Black is just insult to injury.
@Kylie2112 – amazing what people are willing to do in the name of a man who said we should “love our neighbor as our selves”, “Pray for your enemies and love those who persecute you”, and “that which you did not for these(the poor), you did not do for me.” Jesus told people to love and not to judge, but some of the most hateful words come from people who claim to be believers. I assure you they are a minority among believers, but they are a very loud and abusive minority.
    Respectfully…
    even Prayerfully,
    C.

More misguided garbage. Stuff like this is the true source of “fear mongering” in this country. Are you for real?

I was all for the hanging of Zimmerman when all of this first came out. The media hype convicting Zimmerman was pretty strong. A couple of weeks after things calmed down they released pictures of the back of Zimmerman’s head where it showed where it was shaved and stitched after it had been pounded into the concrete. Although I am normally suspicious of media versions of things that happen, this time I wasn’t, much to my own shame. I’m a believer in stand your ground, but in this situation Zimmerman instituted the conditions that resulted in him having to stand his ground. I have not yet resolved within myself if Zimmerman’s action was righteous. I’m leaning toward not since he was instructed not to confront Trayvon but did so anyway.

I thought cops had finally quit doing this. Pathetic if they still are.

So what gang was Martin in? The tattoos he had were his mother’s name. He had no criminal record, as opposed to Zimmerman, who had been previously charged with assault and resisting arrest. And gold teeth makes someone a gangbanger? Gold teeth and a preference for skittles describes my mother. Apparently she’s been running with the wrong crowd.
Regardless of Martin’s character, he was defending himself from a strange person with a gun. Had he been carrying a gun himself, would you be defending him as the “good guy with a gun” excercising his rights under the “stand your ground” laws if he fired first while an armed Zimmerman accosted him?
Think very carefully about this: what if Trayvon were white and Zimmerman had been black. An armed black man follows and confronts a strange white man in his neighborhood, and the white guy ends up dead. Would you defend the black man if the white guy had been killed in the same situation?

I’m not sure if “stand your ground” includes property. I’ll have to look that up. I’ve always taken it as threat to life.

You say that the 911 operator asked whether Martin was White, Black, or Hispanic, and then you say that liberals are turning this into a race issue when it’s not. These two statements do not seem consistent. Which one is correct?
