But it would be nice if folks didn’t impose their freedoms on others.

I think what’s being said here is the bitter truth. My freedom and yours to own a gun in America has been partially paid for by the senseless , needless death of every victim of every gun crime committed , an tragic and unintended consequence! That’s why Sam is crying.

^ Like you, I too am willing to pay the price of a few dead children just to keep MY guns.

As I understood our local news, when the Wash Naval Yard shooter was in Seattle he shot out the tires of a car in a blind rage. Then he was issued a gun permit.
    .
People getting gun permits should be requred to take a mental competency exam.

    “……Freedoms alway comes with a Price….”
    .
Do you really think you can equate freedom with owning guns that in turn equates to happiness and well being? Other countries also have freedoms but without the huge dependence on owning guns and gun violence.
    .
Note the recent U.N. “Happiness Index.” The U.S. ranked eleventh. The countries in order of most happy were Denmark, Finland, Norway, Netherlands, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, U.S., etc.
    .
A couple of the factors going into the happiness index were freedom and health (or health care?). So who really has the most freedom and why do you need guns if you are in fact “free”?

30,000+ deaths to firearms a year, but 12 to 20 are consider “mass” killings? Yes, all are tragedies, but we can do better at regulating weapons and reducing the costs. Before anyone cites auto ACCIDENTS, look a how much better designed cars, and safety devices, have reduced the casualty rate. Plus, we might want to think about having NO laws against speeding, running red lights, drunk driving, or texting, and just gave everyone the keys to cars without a license, or any training on how to drive them. Hmm we do that when we let people “drive” guns.

Well, at least Congress is unanimous about one thing on the gun issue: that moment of silence for the victims. Not sure what the minimum number is (in any one shooting) is, however.

We here in Germany don’t have that “Freedom” to own a gun. You can get a gun for hunting but it’s a strict process with a lot of regulations. You can even get a concealed carry permit, but you have to PROVE that you NEED it (for example because you are a security guard). The number of legal guns is low, the number of illegal guns high (up to 20 millions). But still: not a lot gun violence. Why? Because we don’t have a gun culture!

    -

A gun is not something you show off, or carry around, or talk about here. It is seen as the deadly weapon it is, not as “cool”. Every person holding one is seen a threat to society, per se, even if it’s just a starter pistol. We (the public) have a huge respect towards guns, they are no toys, they are no phallic symbols for us. And the lack of that gun culture is imposed on us by the laws we live under. I sleep pretty well knowing that the guy next door could have an illegal gun but will not use it against me because it basically means the end of him (jail, followed by psycho yard).

Billy, airplanes haven’t killed anywhere NEAR the number of people guns have, unless you count OUR airplanes dropping bombs on Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

The obama WOUND has definitely cut deep and I hope there will be as little scarring on the American mind as when the inept Carter was drummed out of office… It takes some people longer to learn the obvious, unfortunately.

All of these scars are names of places that the government promised would be safe by declaring them gun free zones. And yet you still trust your safety to the government?

Knee-jerk, anti-gun liberals would do well to read this Harvard study. (Actually, everyone would.)

Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy: Would banning guns reduce murder and suicide?

Their conclusion? In a word: “No.”
