Single payer is the American TAXPAYER, not the government. There are less people paying taxes to take care of the rest of the folks on the public dole. It is not sustainable. Look at Great Britan!

I have heard both good and bad regarding Canada’s health care from Canadian friends. Their system would not be very viable in the states primarily due to population differences (300 million vs 33 million) along with our defense budget, infrastructure costs, Since many countries Canada included place a cap on pharmaceutical’s we pick up the difference so drug companies can still profit. That being said check out PBS Front line “Sick around the World” I wish the politicians would have watched it before the ObamaCare was put into place very insightful.

^^So how does a person who makes $40,000 a year pay for a $100,000 surgical procedure to save their lives, $20,000 for hospital bills, and no health insurance?

To me it sounds like your version of single payer would kill this guy.

We need a single payer system to bring health care to all.

We can use more than just the Canadian system to model ours.

It’s all about priorities. If you want the government to run the health care system then you have to not fund other things. There is a finite amount of cash to go around. You liberals think that you can just print money to make it work. And you are wrong.

^ It worked for Wall Street. That is, after all, what a derivative is.

Conservatives think you can cut taxes and increase spending and somehow it all works out. Or, you can cut taxes, and decrease spending at home, and somehow still rule the world with intellect. I guess having bigger guns, but eventually, the smart people will stop coming here.. and China will pass us.

I still love how Republicans say they’re going to cut taxes and the deficit is magically going to fix itself. That $4 trillion from those tax cuts? Magic.

^If we stop funding both wars single payer would be possible.

I do want a government run healthcare system. The government protects our liberty with the military but does not protect our lives with healthcare, ironic. Our taxes should pay for both.

Notice the advertising recently of health insurance companies touting themselves? It’s enrollment time for many employees and millions are being spent in marketing instead of caring.

@charlie555 am I reading your post right? Are you saying someone can live easily on $20,000…..a year or?? I’m obviously not reading that right…because that can’t be what your saying.

Clark Kent is perhaps the most intelligent liberal poster (besides myself) on this entire forum. believeincommensense and truecanadianliberal, are you taking notes. This is how you convince people you are right.

No rock, that’s because many doctors are greedy republicans and only care about the money, but they are willing to take government money in medicare though they say they are for small government and hate Obama’s health care bill. Can you say hypocritic oath?

In the U.S we can choose any doctor we want also. However if said doctor is “out of network” you will pay an exhorbitant fee. Hospital choice? Same deal.

Recently was in need of a specialized test available 10 minutes from my house but insurance wanted it done 115 miles away as they had a better deal with that provider. A waiver was finally granted after challange but come on whose looking at the bottom line and whose looking out for the well being of the individual.

All the talk about wanting to retain the right to choose your own providers has always been a farce.

On vacation and have a healthcare need? Good luck with the out of pocket cost. Our system is a very profitable sham.

We have the best medical in the world according to many shortsighted people. As good as it is it is still has limited access.

Charlie until recently I used to make $18,000 and let me tell you its hard to live off of that. I lived in the Hood, ate cup of noodles, drank Ritz soda, the dollar menu was a luxury, and I had to shop at goodwill.

    I still didn’t have insurance. I couldn’t afford it.

To say that a poor man needs to pay for-profit health insurance first before he can eat is ludicrous. Your train of thought makes no sense.

Also if your house burns down and have no insurance you can start over again. If your body catches cancer and u have no health insurance you’re pretty much dead.
