An easier way to find worms is to look for the little piles of ‘worm castings’ and carefully dig down around them.
An ant hill sort of looks like a tiny volcano (not talking fire ants, here) and a pile of worm castings may be as high, but no orginasation to it and made of tiny round balls of ‘worm poop’.
It is the absolute best thing to grow plants in: as fertilizer, it doesn’t burn the plants, it’s easy for the plants to consume, and if you don’t have much of a life and do have good skills with a tiny vaccuum cleaner, you can make a good deal of money selling worm castings.
Look in Home Depot for Worm Dirt in the Garden section.
Or buy some worms, keep them captive, feed them kitchen waste (no meat or dairy), and sell the worm castings that way, or use them.
