Marmaduke is America's most lovable Great Dane. Created by Brad Anderson, the classic comic canine has delighted newspaper readers since 1954. Marmaduke lives with the Winslow family, who, try as they might, just can't seem to get him to obey. Despite his antics, the playful pooch is top dog in the neighborhood and on the comics page, where he has endeared himself to readers in more than 20 countries. The daily panel also strikes a chord with pet owners, many of whom write to Anderson to comment on Marmaduke as if he were a real dog.

It’s also a great way of clearing a room of cats!

I’ve heard real-life stories of dogs barking at vacuum cleaners.

Poor Marmy… Why doesn’t he hide under the bedcovers with his paws over his ears?

I dunno, our cat likes to ride on the vacuum.

Vacuums seem to be one thing both cats and dogs agree on, they both hate them. Win, I’d love to see a pic of your cat riding on the vacuum.

My cat does not care if the vac is in the room. He just watches & ignores it when it comes near him.

Oh yeah. Mine is okay with it usually, but if I take the hand tool especially the crevice tool and use it, he will bark and attack it. It’s actually pretty funny because when he goes to bite the crevice tool and he feels the suction, he will jump back and bark even more.

My current dog seems confused by the vacuum. It’s a bunch of noise going over every bit of the tile floor with no difference, in her opinion, in the before and after look of the floor. My cats have always thought the vacuum was an annoyance until it got too close. Then it was a terrifying monster.
