No Sue, you need math to make sure people aren’t stealing from you.

You also need to it to keep YOURSELF from becoming poor.

Though I think there are probably a lot of people now that’d love to see her be poor and get put in her place.

Remember people, kids, with their limited life experience, are somehow complete experts on what they’ll need to know in the future. Because they already know how and why they’re going to be rich and famous!

I’d be overjoyed if every kid who came out of the school system could at least read and write and add and subtract, with nothing more than paper and a pencil.

They’re too bust memorizing answers for tests to learn anything.

Passing corporate created tests that will not educate them. And schools so fearful of funding being pulled have resorted to cheating to up their scores instead of actual education.

Sue needs to know that rich people who don’t mind their money rapidly BECOME poor people. Many portions of math will not be useful in your lifetime, but until you know (and we can’t) all the paths your life will take, you don’t know which ones.

I’m a former self-taught engineer. And I also agree that our school systems are not doing the best they could do. If I were currently young and raising my kids, I’d probably choose to home-school with the help of online resources.

Sue is young enough, naive enough and trusting enough to assume that she will have ‘people’ do for her all the things that would be too bothersome, or beneath her, to do herself.

She pretty much has a good point there – if she’s rich enough, that is. You don’t really see rich people studying technical stuff.

I had a friend who graduated not knowing how to read. He probably didn’t know math. I could barely read, couldn’t write at all and only knew a smattering of arithmetic. I’m learning to write here on Gocomics.
Our basketball team used all pro-type equipment though. The same stuff pro teams used!

Rich people get rich and stay rich because they learned math. and all the boring stuff that goes with it like budgeting and percentages, and being able to read mining core readouts and know – there’s gold, diamonds, silver, oil in that sample.
