    In my day, she could “plan” on getting a spanking for a remark like that.

    One thing that’s rarely planned well is the kind of remark kids will make. No filter at all.

    He can just board that window up if money is tight.

    All you have to do is read the history of comic strips to know how true that is. From the Katzenjammer Kids to Maria’s Day and every strip in between.

    @phritzg

    In my day I would expect a spanking for the broken window…..
    “Of course it was an accident, I’d really punish you if I thought it was on purpose! The spanking is to make you think next time and to be more careful where you play!”
    And a remark like that would never even have occurred.

    How true. My dad used to say he should give us a spanking once a day, just for the stuff we did that he didn’t find out about. (He didn’t, though.)

    Yeah well, right now Daddy is planning a little expedition down to the local Gypsy camp with you!

    Probably won’t win any awards for this, but it seems to me the dad should suck it up, pay for the window, and take the amount out of Maria’s allowance (if she gets one) or her paycheck (when she gets one). It was an accident after all.

    My daughter got in an auto accident, totally her fault. I did just that, paid the deductible, got it back from her, and making her pay the difference in the increased insurance premium.

    Of course my daughter knew better than to reply to me as Maria did. She (1) is older and can filter her speech, and (2) could tell that, even though I did not say so, I was pi$$&d.

    Good move on your part. But unlike your daughter,with Maria,it’s all about her,hence the smart-@$$ remark(s).

    Ha! If they had planned better, they would have skipped child #1 and gone straight to #2. ;-)

    I don’t know why today’s strip isn’t up. I delivered it.
