I suppose in a way she has a point…. TV was around when I was born and we got our first while I was in nursery school. There just wasn’t much on. I watched Howdy Doody, I remember my great excitement when that new show The Mickey Mouse Club started. I watched Captain Kangaroo. Saturday mornings were cartoon time and then a bit later they started putting some cartoon shows on just before supper. Huckleberry Hound and Quick Draw McGraw. We got 2 channels at first, then three and then a fourth, a PBS station on UHF. TV put up a test pattern from late at night till early morning. There wasn’t much on TV for a kid to watch. There were a few things beside what I already mentioned; Scott McCloud Space Ranger, Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, My Friend Flicka, Superman, The Lone Ranger all come to mind and a host of other westerns that followed, Paladin, The Rifleman, Bat Masterson, etc… But most of these shows were on in the evening, during the day there was not much to watch. Unlike today where the 24/7 and hundreds of channels offer a lot to watch. I spent much more time outside playing then I ever did watching TV.

There’s a ton of “stuff” on TV now, and my family hardly watches any of it. Most of it is junk and not worth the time.

Yup nothing worth the time at all. My family kicked the TV out entirely in ‘96 and we not only don’t miss it we discovered we’re a lot happier without it.

TV is such a waste of time now. I only watch the news. History channel used to be good.
