I find the black and white strip works great with the artwork. I enjoy this strip and I think the black and white works.

That’s the shame of it. Many people today don’t understand that B&W is a choice, with its own visual language. Ted Turner got people thinking that it’s no more or less than the lack of color- and therefore a deficiency. And now the new limited POV is that anything that’s not in 3D, or an approximation thereof, is also lacking, and not worth it. Our imaginations are getting smaller and narrower.

I think the daily strips would lose some of their charm if they had to be in color.

I do the daily Working Daze in color because it was already established as a color feature before I started on it. Sometimes I suspect that those who are not artists believe that color is no extra work- that it’s as easy as flipping a switch on or off.

I’m afraid that for some of your colleagues it IS no extra work, as they let the syndicate color the strips for them…

Glad you think so, Maria, because you’re going to see a lot of red added to this paper.

Yes, those are the strips that frequently have mistakes, suggesting that the colorists aren’t reading them first. I color Prince Valiant, but I have to know what’s going on or I’ll end up having to change it.
