By John Zakour (writer) & Scott Roberts (artist)
Maria is a kid who sees things her own way- and expects the world to see it her own way too! Her friend Joey is more practical. He helps keep her grounded, though that’s as easy as handling a Thanksgiving balloon in a hurricane. Sue is special and she knows it- better than anyone. She’s writing her autobiography now, but she’ll live it later. Bob takes things slower. Ms. Payne is their teacher- she enjoys her job, she truly does. She’d enjoy it even more without the students.

It wouldn’t be so bad. Usually teachers let the students have fun that day with little learning or even send them home if there are a lot of students out sick. At least, a lot of the teachers I know…

If I were Maria, I would suddenly come down with a tummy ache and have to go to the nurse.

Gee, Maria, you might learn so much today that you can stay home from school for the next week! (More likely, Maria has also caught the flu and is actually having a nightmare!)

in primary school, chicken pox devastated the spring semester school year. by june 1, there was 20 kids left out of the whole school who could attend. the teachers let them study on their own, no learning, and just busywork. pizza was on the menu everyday. and, the final day, was just 1 hour. next year, though, no outbreak of chicken pox, but heard that another school had an outbreak of the measles, which meant that everyone had to get measles booster shots.

S. Texas never got enough snow to make any kind of art work. So no experimentation. Now it rarely freezes.

The worst is yet to come, Maria; you may—brace yourself, take a deep breath—ENJOY having a whole day one-on-one with Ms. Payne! This may be—start shuddering—a BONDING experience!

@ghostkeeper
Now that would be nice. He has to hide it from her friends and enemies.
