By John Zakour (writer) & Scott Roberts (artist)
Maria is a kid who sees things her own way- and expects the world to see it her own way too! Her friend Joey is more practical. He helps keep her grounded, though that’s as easy as handling a Thanksgiving balloon in a hurricane. Sue is special and she knows it- better than anyone. She’s writing her autobiography now, but she’ll live it later. Bob takes things slower. Ms. Payne is their teacher- she enjoys her job, she truly does. She’d enjoy it even more without the students.

If a commenter chooses a name like ‘sack of rabid weasels,’ you can’t really expect him/her to have nice things to say. “Hi, I’m Bag of Frothing Wolverines, and I really enjoy your work!”

Why do people find it necessary to post insulting comments in response to a comic?
This stip is fun, and I can relate to it so well, because I’m a parent and I have a son who says some of the same things that Maria says.

If I want character growth, I’ll read a novel. I find this strip quite amusing and read it every day.

It makes them feel important. At any rate, this is still a new strip. That means we have to reinforce the characters and their individual quirks for a while. We can let them grow when they’re well established.

Well said, Scott and John. Let me add How many of us did stupid stunts. I recall climbing a tree, in the woods behind our House, to the very topwhere the branches were thin, about 1" diameter, could see the whole valley. On the back down one branch broke and I Slid down the trunk branches snapping between my legs until I..“was STOPPED” where the trunk formed a ‘Y’. Now I know what it feels like to leap into a saddle, and “YES” I went back up the next day.

4 points JZ and TSR ~ 2 points each.
Love how mom says that once she knows you’re all right I’ll give you your lecture. Typical Mom, loving mom. Oh and Maria, Owie! One TomBoy to another.
’
TheDOCTOR ~ broke my arm in three places when the tree branch broke, first day of summer vacation after first grade and the cast came off just before scholl started again.

If all I had to fear was a stern or lengthy scolding when I was a kid back in the 50’s, I ’d either be crippled or long dead today. In our day, the injuries (i.e., spankings) came after the parents found out what we did, not before. My parents, especially my dad, were firm believers in STR,STC (Spare the rod, spoil the child).

What a cool mom. I remember once falling off my bike while trying to unwrap a candy bar. My mom saw it happen, stood over me and asked"Well, what have you to say for yourself?" I thought about it for what seemed like hours, and finally came up with “OW!” (I ended up with a broken wrist and a pink cast).

My avatar? That’s me at about 12. In the uncut picture, I’m in the house of mirrors at an amusement park.

If it’s frothing wolverines you like, then you should put Fusco Bros. in your lineup.
