By John Zakour (writer) & Scott Roberts (artist)
Maria is a kid who sees things her own way- and expects the world to see it her own way too! Her friend Joey is more practical. He helps keep her grounded, though that’s as easy as handling a Thanksgiving balloon in a hurricane. Sue is special and she knows it- better than anyone. She’s writing her autobiography now, but she’ll live it later. Bob takes things slower. Ms. Payne is their teacher- she enjoys her job, she truly does. She’d enjoy it even more without the students.

Snowstorms sound so good in the heat of summer. Terrible in the winter.

Yes, the school theme may sound off on August first- but that’s where the scripts began, and we were given the start date by the syndicate. So we just figure the gags don’t have to correspond precisely to what day they appear on.

hello. Your comics is just as great as your looks in third grade, haha. of course i didn’t see any picture of you now, so… you’re a genius!! and thats better than being a child prodigy.

Yes, Joey, with the overbite, is a boy. You also see him upside down in the page header.

LOL who do you think she is talking to in this strip? It doesn’t look female to me.

You should work on an asteroid hitting your school, Maria; it would last longer. Love the helmet too!!
p.s. @ Scott Roberts – The school theme works great with me in the Atlanta area. School starts on Aug 13 (it used to start earlier), and we meet their teachers next week, so school is definitely on our minds. Finishing up school supply shopping this week (that would be an arc that you could do… Maria sliding in her own additions to the standard school supply list). I love this comic and the fact that you guys are involved in the comments, so keep it up! :-)

Wow! August! I ought tell that to Christine’s kids- so they don’t think they have it so bad. For them August means another week away at camp, and then a week with their grandmother in NJ.

@NateWright
child prodigies tend to be genius in something at a very young age.

I like the fact that Marie is still wanting to avoid the test even though her “developed vast mental powers” to ace the test. But her motive is to avoid tests.
