Has he ever watched Lum & Abner? They weren’t that hostile to each, just made some wise cracks.

Hi! If you’re asking if I have ever watched Lum and Abner, yes, I’ve seen all seven movies and heard all the existing radio shows. True, they were not often this angry, but sometimes Lum did get angry with Abner, and sometimes Abner did get angry with Lum. It didn’t happen that often, but it sometimes happened. This week’s strip does contain some exaggerated action, but I wanted to get a new storyline started in a strong manner.

Thank you, Alan! I was asked about the cat and mouse on Facebook. No, they never spoke in the radio show, so this is something of a departure, but a reader made a suggestion about featuring those two characters, so I decided to have a little fun.

Yes, the cat and mouse are a nice touch and fit the comic style! Looking forward to next week.

Thanks! I know you’re a cat fan! My wife and I have had cats since 1987. Plus I had them growing up as well.

By the way, folks, two “Lum and Abner” movies are being shown tomorrow (Monday, January 27, 2014) on TCM: “The Bashful Bachelor” and “Two Weeks to Live.” If anyone reading is/was a member of the National Lum and Abner Society, “BB” features Louise Currie, the 1992 NLAS Convention guest, and “TWTL” features Kay Linaker, convention guest in 1998, 2003, and 2005.

Lum & Abner got downright angry with each other on more than one occasion in the radio programs. They divided the Jot ’Em Down Store in the heat of their disagreements more than once. In fact, the radio show ran the full gamut of emotions. It was far more rich in depth than just wisecracks.

Thanks Brian. That is so true. It was a many faceted radio show, and I encourage everyone to listen to as many of the programs as possible. Some of hilarious, some make you chuckle, others leave you in suspense, and more than one can bring a tear to the eye. I’ll never forget the one in which Lum gets the news that a young man has died in the war. That one was powerful.
