Why do people want greasy turkey, anyway?!
sundogusa said, 6 months ago
Not greasy! Actually very tasty. Tried deep frying a couple times, no accidents. Back to the tried and true roasting method.

Be sure it is a foam based extinguisher since this is an oil fire. CO2, used very carefully, could work, though.

I’d like to try some fired turkey. Not too much of it unless it is cooked in maybe olive oil but it is dangerous if done the wrong way.

Don’t deep fry in Olive oil! Doesn’t do high heat well.
Peanut oil is what you want.
Peanut oil is fairly healthy but if anyone has Peanut allergies be careful some Peanut oils can be a hazard. They usually remove the allergens.

These fires happen because there is too much oil in the pot. When the turkey is added it overflows into the burner and catches fire.
The trick is to put the turkey in the pot and add water until it is covered. Then remove the turkey and mark the water line. Dump the water and wipe the pot dry. Then add oil to the mark you made and you have the right amount. Make sure to dab the water off of the turkey before you add it to the hot oil.

Dad did one or more of the following:
Had too much oil in the pot
The Bird was frozen
Failed to slowly lower the bird in the hot oil

@briatollah
Also slowly lower the bird in the oil lifting and lowering bird to allow for oil displacement, and never leave fryer unattended

If you have peanut allergies, or any one of your guest has peanut allergies, using peanut oil might kill them.
