    Does all this offer of credit mean Luann is 18?

    @Ken Hense

    To be honest, there have been stories of minors getting mail like this, and card offers… It seems that their names get “discovered” the same way adults’ names get thrown into the mix, anytime we put it up for some company to buy our P.I.I. (Personally Identifiable Information) or any piece of data given up when we register with someone, somewhere, for something…

    One of those offers was how I got my very first credit card. Unbeknownst to me, my parents received a credit card offer from Beall’s (a department store) that was designed to help teens start building up credit. So my mom filled out the form, my Beall’s card came, and I began using it. Being the reliable person that I am, I paid the bills on time, built up good credit, and got more credit cards (not too many, though; I don’t want THAT!). Now at 44, I still pay my bills on time and have good credit to show for it. Of course, this may not be a good idea for all teens. It all depends, really, on how reliable and responsible they are.

    Junk mail makes good fuel for the wood stove. I wonder if anyone’s ever put themselves on as many mailing lists as possible and then burned the garbage for heat?

    Luann has a car?! (So Frank says, panel 2.) When did that happen?

    Some bottom feeder stole my Brother’s credit card number and spent thousands on an extended vacation in Mexico, it took months before he could get the credit company off his back

    Interestingly Frank doesn’t seem so upset by the financial indications that Luann is becoming an adult.

    Frank couldn’t care less if she spends herself into a hole she can never climb out of, but God forbid she should spend her time with a well-adjusted young man who genuinely loves her and treats her with respect.

    I noticed the same thing, Sisyphos. only because I didn’t have my own car in high school (1952-54), nor college, nor till I was 36, which was when my 16 year old daughter needed my wheels. How differently my life would have turned out, had I had the independence of unlimited horizons.
