    Yes, something to think about…

Philosophical question: Does war, death and sacrifice make a country better? — or can it be great without these things?

Your dad grew up in the wrong decade for the draft, Luann. By the time he was eligible for the draft, there was no reason to draft him because there was no war to draft him to fight in!

How would he have been in a war? He was probably born in the early to mid 1960s. He wouldn’t have been in Kuwait because at least Brad would have known about that.

one possibly philosophical answer: the idea of no war is a pipe dream. as long as there are two equal yet opposite egos in existence, war can only be a reality. opposite egos cannot bear either’s existence.

That was exactly my point. Frank can’t be much younger than I am (I’m 52), which means that he would have been a young child during the Vietnam War, wouldn’t have reached draft age until long after that war ended, and would have been well past the age where he’d have been likely to be drafted by the time the first Persian Gulf War started in 1991. Luann either can’t do math or never paid attention in History class (probably both).

Just remember that the USA has started many wars. Usually against nearly defenseless countries. Starting with Vietnam. Now we have the largest military in the world bar none. No one comes close.

I managed to just miss the draft. Never had to register either. And I understood what Vietnam to not want to go there. It was a sham and in no way was in defense of this country or the values it claims to hold dear.
