You’d best not walk away, unless you want that coffee in an uncomfortable spot.

teens need to learn that the web is not that safe, tread carefully through it, sometimes people pressure us to do what we never thought of doing, or someone can catfish us

1) coffee in uncomfortable spot (Mordy, did buying the houses prevent that one from happening to you?)
2) locking the door to the bedroom
3) new sofas

Yeah – Getting all this across to Luann without coming off as the enemy – now that will require two great minds to think alike.

Frank’s right – it’s definitely about precaution. A good AV/internet protection suite would handle the possibility of penetration and/or unwanted intrusion into vulnerable areas one holds to remain intact and unspoiled…

Introducing the ultimate protector of the internet: A good 30,000,000 volt charge to the posterior in the event things start to get out of control. Provides instant ‘guidance’ for the offending user and instantaneously wipes data from the computing device, thus keeping it from falling into the wrong hands.

A problem is that the two of them don’t appear to know much about the internet. Luann probably has a far better idea of how to stay out of trouble online than they do.
.
The best solution I’ve heard of for the internet is for parents to keep the computer in the family room/living room where everyone can see it. If a kid is tempted (and no doubt every one is at sometime or another), it would be too embarassing for them to go to sites their family wouldn’t like.
.
There is the problem of school, though. What are they being exposed to there, in today’s PC climate? Considering what they taught girls when I was in K-12, I can’t imagine what they teach them today. The “actions have no consequences”, “do whatever you want”, “go out and sleep with the best”, etc. that girls were taught in the 1980s and 1990s is probably tame compared to now.

She’s just talking to Quill though, not some 40-year-old creep, and her parents know this. What are they afraid will happen, that she’ll get cyber-pregnant?

The issues would be whether Luann is involved in anything inappropriate – sexting, chatting with predators and perhaps arranging to meet in real life, looking at pornography, this sort of thing. All of these are problems in real life that parents need to be concerned about.
