Frank must think that a proper girl should sit on the edge of her bed, hands clasped, thinking proper thoughts, reading inspirational tomes for recreation except for during the sleeping period. And school, if she must. Frank has realized that Bernice is almost as good as he is in pushing a maximum sour reaction to life in general… and has decided to work harder at that.

You must have missed the part of this story arc where they changed their minds about not having a romantic relationship — right before Quill got the news that his family was moving back to Australia and they needed him to start packing ASAP. If you go back a couple of months, you’ll find it.
