We’re talking Juilliard and you want a sleezy, blue collar hot dog joint. Poor Frank will either turn around and look for a second job, or have momma call the EMS.

Although none of us thinks she will make it to juilliard, it is great that Luann is thinking big for a start. Maybe this will motivate her to work as hard as she can. She can adjust her expectations later, as needed. And if this is prelude to Quill reappearing to help her with her singing, even better.

I wonder how long she would last at Julliard. Not being a rich snob, she would have all sorts of problems.

I bet that no one here would notice that Frank just came home from his day job.

He probably thinks it’s a fancy store at the mall!

Getting into Juilliard can gain you prestige, but wealth will not get you into Juilliard, only extraordinary talent, so I assume you are inferring snobbery from the ability to raise the funds for fees that private schools require. Unwarrented and unfair.

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve had an Orange Julliard.

This is from a very recent press account of a high school graduation: “Louwagie received the Herbert V. Kohler Scholarship of $80,000 for a private school education.” If you’re good enough…

Jim, its easy to think big when you’re doing it with someone elses money.

I have had that look before.

In that last panel, Frank’s expression indicates that he is most possibly aware of the cost of going to Julliard. Not being privy to the entirety of the conversation, he may have wrongly surmised that he was not consulted in the non – existent final decision. It also indicates that he may have to go shovel out his underwear………..

Is it really? Since you have to audition to get into Juilliard – and the competition is fierce – that statement makes no sense whatsoever.
.
FYI, while it’s not “easy” to earn an $80K scholarship, that amount only covers $20K for a 4 year program – less than half of what the more prestigious IHLs charge for tuition. So no buying your way into anyplace else, either. Since most scholarships aren’t awarded until graduation, you need start working hard for grades and “thinking big” years before that.
.
No one said it was easy, but if you dream small, you’ll be small all your life.

From my experience as teacher and as a mother, it is BAD for them to expect BIG things. When faced with the harsh realities of life and money, they crash and give up. Nancy is right to bring her back to earth and say no, they can’t afford to send her to Juilliard. Start with that NOW so Luann knows she is NOT going to Juilliard and starts to look into where she CAN get into.
