LUANN is about the trials of becoming a young adult: the hilarity and drama, triumphs and flops, friendships and rivalries. Rich in character and intriguing "what'll happen next?!" stories, LUANN is a compelling saga of life's most volatile stage. Greg Evans was voted Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year in 2003 by the National Cartoonists Society.

As usual, it is up to Mom to set Dad straight.

If Luann has not spoken to Mom about careers since,‘Ballerina on a Pony’ they are long overdue on the ‘What will I be’ topic.
Mom, encourage her while she is in high school. Have her perform in all the school plays, local community theaters, and any other local part she can get. If she can have a few roles, she will find out if she does like it and if she is any good. What she needs is a mentor. Sandra Bullock will probably be too busy to help her and Tiffany is incapable of understanding, ‘Exit, stage left.’ If one of the directors likes her, he/she can work with her. If nothing else, the mentor might be able to get her an interview with an instructor at a good university.

I think Luann should be a Professional Wrestler.

Hey, you can’t say it didn’t work out for Luann’s dad – he may not have become the next Jimmy Page, but he did meet (and marry) a hot girl!

My high school theater experience consisted of painting rocks and baseboards on flats. whee.

@rayannina
is this his second marriage?

That’s okay, Nancy. A really promising young actress I knew wound up having a successful and fulfilling career as a social worker. Let Luann major in drama in college.

Yep, listen to your wife, Frank.

But if I understand the dad correctly, he wasn’t in a band as a career choice – rather as a side hobby (with benefits). If that’s all Luann wanted from acting, I don’t think the dad would be worried. But he’s right – as a career, it’s pretty bleak.

Is that hand sanitizer or hand lotion? Just curious, given the last panel. :0

One of Frank’s more profoundly wise undertakings. It seemed to have worked just fine. Women are more attracted to men who date attractive women.

That’s $5,000 a year if an actor finds work, which most don’t. Luann needs a backup major like administration or accounting so she can actually pay her bills.

Funny…actors, real estate, musicians, painters…top 20 make all the money in the world…the rest make SOME and work very hard for it…and most get nothing. You know…80/20 rule…which if you follow it you far enough…explains the .01 percent of the country who own EVERYTHING…and the same reason tells us there will be a market for guillotines soon.
Cutting edge…

The military use hand lotion to field strip guns. The drill instructors teach us the difference in boot camp. Even teach us a little diddy.
