    That’s the worst, isn’t it? It hurts more than when one goes kicking and screaming, protesting and fighting it to the end. That I can stand, awful as it is. But even that pales next to the raw pain of resigned serenity, not least in how it makes the grief and anguish of those left behind even more searing.
