When you go out to do the lawn tomorrow, and you feel the heat pushing down on you so that you can’t even make your thumb activate the “on” switch on the electric mower, do like Lucius does and take a taste of your own weed killer.

Flight or fight, flail or fail.

Don’t lose Lucius, or allow the aloysium to be taken.

Woe, woe, woe, three days to go.

Suddenly, a beam of light erupts from the dagger, and carves a swathe through the vines. They form into a humanoid, also with a sword. Lucius lowers his weapon and says “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.”

    Oh, cry Folly!
Biff and Margo are racing to meet the Black at the End of the Hall!
And valiant Yellow Jacket has offered himself up to the Vile Vines to no good end, as he carries the Lone Aylosium, O noble Lone Warrior!

Vines: “Seriously? All we want to do is take you gently by the elbows and lead you to Flimm. Don’t make this so difficult.”

Uh oh… more divide and conquer tactics, Flimm? If Lucius and the aylosium sword get swallowed up in the vines, Biff and Margo (the two least threatening?) will be facing Flimm alone.

Have good weekends, one and all – I’m on my way out to the garden shed to make sure we have enough weed killer…

The lone warrior is going to be a bomb just like The Lone Ranger.

“The lone warrior is going to be a bomb”

Yeah, it’s a shame that people have these preconceptions about moving vines and all. Bigotry, I calls it. Things haven’t been the same since that “Day of the Triffids” documentary.

The imagery is fantastic here, and as epic as “Odysseus.”

“Lucius was at his Zenith… " Though some have expressed distrust of Lucius on various occasions, I have never really believed that there was any real question as to whose side he is on, though I can also understand the doubters’ viewpoint. I often think of a line towards the end of Lloyd Alexander’s story, The Beggar Queen: “Not everyone who fights on the side of the angels is an angel.” Indeed — even those who are on the side of right are hardly flawless. Some are not above engaging in behavior that is ethically or morally questionable. And some are incredibly demanding, and consequently very hard on their loved ones and on others surrounding them (though in fairness they are often at least as demanding of themselves, sometimes more so). For my part, Lucius’s impatience and abruptness with the others often grate on me. Yet I always thought that when faced with great peril, as here, he would never let the others come to harm — if he could help it. And right now I fear that the forces at work here may be too overwhelming even for Live Wire Lucius, even with aylosium in hand. And I hope and pray that Kreelit and Rufus don’t arrive too late.

    A frenetic battle scene—but when the dust settles . . .

    .

    .

    .

. . .we see Lucius holding the blade in one hand, at a chess board, moving a white knight, while the vines are twitching and writhing behind the black pieces.
