Welcome to a land of strange stories and weirdly-spun yarn, where oddities and unmentionables lurk behind every tale. Here you will witness the plight of the mysterious Heckbender, suffer the misadventures of Derring-Do Dan, learn the unsettling secret of the Slynderfell Ice Cream Cavalcade, and behold the unraveling of The Bogey. A word of caution: stay on the sidewalks, avoid shortcuts through Halfrock Swamp, and do NOT under any circumstances make business transactions with C. Percival Trullus.

So our little Nesting Doll and our Piper Piping wants to know why is it that Rafer Frost couldn’t take them? Oh, I can’t wait for Monday now!

The rat master is Master Rat. The fife must be great when he’s looking for a hot date.

Are these takers mistaken in their undertaking? Similar rivalry to L’Omino with Rafer Frost (and boss).

Oh, how devious! The Pied Piper is a transmogrified rat himself; the Old Witch (I reluctantly give up the hope that she might be Old Gypsy Woman) is of the Taker kind, and yet not interested in taking our lads but rather in learning their “secret” that they themselves probably do not know! Why? What, or whom, has she lost that she wants back? Or is it that the ratty Piper seeks to locate that Hamelin generation he led astray and lost?

“Biff stopped snarling and started flopping on the floor like a stranded fish.
“Biff stopped flopping.”
I had to read this several times. How can it be so funny, in such a dire situation? But it is!

I trust her promise about as much as I’d trust Jenny.

Nesting doll—that’s funny…
Seriously, that is one creepily gorgeous piece of art. And the story’s great, too…

She wants to know why the boys keep winning…word travels about these two.

Monday strip: Rufus and Biff are strapped to exam tables being probed and analyzed with various nasty looking instruments by the takers. Then they will be let go, return to civilization and nobody will believe them.

She did say “next time”. Small glimmer of hope.

Looks like all the takers are in it against Frost. He seems to have the most power of them all and they are all gathering against him!

I’m curious about the piper’s patchwork coat of many colors. I can’t see it as a reference to the biblical Joseph.

Clearly, they want to know the secret so they know how to beat it. Granny might honor her word to Biff and Rufus, but anyone else with their gift is fair game.

Parzifal also had a “coat of many colors” which he kept when he donned the defeated Red Knight’s armor to continue his quest for the Grail.

Is the Piper himself a metamorphosed rat created by the old Witch to bring her prey? To quote Alice, “curiouser and curiouser.”
