Personally, I’m getting pretty sick of having the “volunteer” message shoved down my throat. How do you know I DON’T volunteer already? It wouldn’t be so bad if I felt it was more sincere and less self-righteous, but the truth is it’s mostly just part of the left’s Obama worship. The big man says volunteer, so suddenly everyone’s pretending that they’re altruistic, at least for now.
When something as important as volunteering gets subsumed into the left’s mantra (which means everyone’s supposed to claim that it’s important but actually doing it is optional) then it’s just one more victim of political correctness.

Maybe the cartoonists just thought it was a good cause to get behind.
The last time I remember this many cartoonists doing the same theme was the Charles Schulz Tributes.

Back in May, JJ Abrams showed up un-announced at the Business Meeting during the National Cartoonists Society annual gathering. He asked all the cartoonists to do a volunteering-themed cartoon on one day … today. He also made the plea to the TV and Movie industry as well, I believe. This was my small contribution to the effort. But I told myself I’d only do it if I could figure out how to be funny in the process. Hope I did okay.

Dave, yours is the funniest ones I’ve seen. Thanks for putting some work into it and not just blather on about it like most of the others seem to be doing.

Somebody always has to complain about something!!!!!!

@Dave - thanks for the explanation. When I saw so many strips with this theme, I figured something like this must have happened.
And I second MrGromit’s comment.

Dave, this is a great one. Someone volunteer to make sure the complainers get back on their meds! XD

USA Weekend started Make a Difference Day (4th Sat in Oct) nearly 20 years ago. I believe that would be in the Reagan era, certainly not the Obama era.
