Recently widowed Lola moves in with her son, Ray, and his family at his request. The potential disasters of Lola living with her anally retentive adult son and family provide the backdrop for a hilarious story about life. Life according to Lola, that is. Lola is a witty sharpshooter who’s too busy living life to the fullest to worry about political correctness, exercise and proper diet. She’s fiercely independent and struggles with having to live under Ray’s rules…so she doesn’t. A wicked sense of humor and blunt, but often heart-warming honesty are Lola’s tools of trade.

“need stashed”? need stashing maybe, or to be stashed, but the funny is lost when my brain goes “wait, what?”

Or it could be stached, if he had one like Ned Flanders.

Needs “to be” stashed
“To be”, rhymes with doobie
What was I talking about?

The world would be a happier place if we all had daily inspiration.

Oh for the love of…She’s talking about drugs, if he’s getting his inspiration from them and if they’d need to be stashed to hide them from the police…

Dunno where Clark is from or where Lola is from, but that IS a well-known regionalism mostly associated with western Pennsylvania/Ohio (Pittsburgh is notorious) and reportedly stems from German construction applied to English. So dinner “Needs cooked,” the barn " Needs painted," etc, dropping out the “to be.”
Grok the fullness, man.

I agree with Penny…the cartoonist must be from Pittsburgh or nearby. I have lived from Texas to New England and the Pittsburgh area is the only place I’ve ever heard the dropping of “to be” (My essay needs typed; the house needs cleaned; my kids need bathed, etc.)

Last sentence no verb.

Okay, here’s the deal. I was an Air Force brat. Name a state…I’ve lived there. Not sure where I picked up this particular verbage, but I apologize if it’s causing stress throughout the comics page. As always, thanks for reading!

Parts of the South I believe, or it may have just been contagion from military moving about. It doesn’t bother my ear I hear it as an ellipsis.

From the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 4th Edition:
Regional Note: When need is used as the main verb, it can be followed by a present participle, as in The car needs washing, or by to be plus a past participle, as in The car needs to be washed. However, in some areas of the United States, especially western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio, many speakers omit to be and use just the past participle form, as in The car needs washed. This use of need with past participles is slightly more common in the British Isles, being particularly prevalent in Scotland.
(I lean toward the idea it stems from German grammar, like some other Pennsylvania idiosyncrasies.)

I’m from Ohio I got it right away, surprised so many people on here questioned the wording. Anyway, I thought it was hilarious. :)
