I see a squirrel every-now-and-then that didn’t make it across the road in my town, in fact I’ve seen more squirrels than dogs, and more dogs than tortoises.

Well, since “tomorrow never comes,” they don’t have to worry about being hit from a bus.
The “Grand Tortoise” told Little Dog’s tortoise companion that it “could be hit by a bus tomorrow” on Oct. 29.
Since the dog is no longer beside the highway and is in the woods now with the tortoise, only a wayward bus would even hit them that far away from the road.
