There is a move in Russia to prosecute Mr. Gorbachav for his treasonous actions in the fall of the USSR. If it can be ‘proven’ that the USSR was betrayed, it will go far in justifying Mr. Putin’s actions in restoring the cold war boundaries with the Russian people.
    Scary stuff neighbors.
    Respectfully,

It was Khrushchev, not Gorbachev, who gave the Crimea to the Ukraine.

    ,

(Of course, many blame Gorbachev’s glasnost and perestroika for the downfall of the USSR).

And a big chunk of the Ukraine voted to leave the USSR in 1919 (but Stalin took back not only all that was lost, but also a chunk of the Austrian Empire, a chunk that has recently, with massive US/EU support, taken over the entire Ukraine; the history is complicated, since Stalin starved the entire Ukraine, so almost no Ukrainians, not even Russian Orthodox Russian speaking Ukrainians, want to return to Russian control, but those Russian Orthodox Russian speakers also hate the formerly Austrian Western Ukrainians and don’t want to be in a Ukraine that’s controlled by those former Austrians; so a complete and utter mess, mostly made by Stalin, not Gorbachev).

and with the USA suffering under an elected anti-American president, working day by day to “change” our system, Putin knows he will get away with land-grabs to “restore the Empire”…..because our Isolationist president also has changed our foreign policy to aid for enemies and opposition to friends and NO leadership to act to solve international problems.

Always good to hear from you, Michael.
As you stated parenthetically, Gorbachev is being blamed for the downfall of the USSR. One wonders how far Mr. Putin is willing to go to restore the USSR to his vision of its one time greatness. The situation is not helped by the fact that, like in the USA, there are very large divides between the two sides in the Ukraine and one side is more willing to take the nation down if they get what they want, that is to say, to be unified with Russia.
When people are poor, ignorant, and desperate, they will often make decisions that they later learn were not in their best interests.
Thank you for your many well stated comments, especially the ones where your subtlety is in the forefront.
    Sincerely,
    C.

One wonders if those in Ukraine favoring union with Russia have spoken with the Georgians, particularly those in the regions annexed by Russia in 2008. From what I read, that has been a disappointment of major proportions and an economic disaster for those people.

And yet you continue to spin in defence of Obama’s aiding and abetting of it.

Funny how ignorant the press is of the current Russian Ministry of internal affairs, know by the acronym MVD, anyone who knows them at all can see that’s exactly who these phony “militia” are.

Interesting to see Obama talking a lot about additional sanctions when virtually no original sanctions have been imposed. Watch as WW 3 begins because liberal America does nothing.

WWI did not begin because the various nations of the world did nothing but because they acted for no good reason. Think about it if you can, do some reading if you have the time. You might start with “The Guns of August” by Tuchmann, but there are many more good additional sources. Then ask yourself if WWII would have occurred if the allies of WWI had conducted the post-war situation in a more coherent and less vindictive, nationalistic manner.
