Several have said it’s not about Yellen, it’s about rejecting every single one of Obama’s nominees. They only need 41 votes to block a nomination, and they HAVE 41 votes.

Very good points. Unfortunately ignored by the people who tell us that the Dems control the Senate. Thanks to the changes in filibuster rules, the Senate is now under minority rule, and will continue to be so until the rules are returned to their original form.

    1. You misspelled her name despite its being in the cartoon you’re commenting on.
    2. Obama is somewhere to the right of Eisenhower. You want to talk about socialists, you need to learn about FDR.

The democrats are the ones who changed the rules. It suited their purpose at the time.

Strom Thurmond (D) SC,holds the record for filibusters. He filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1957.Robert Bryd (D) WV also is in the top 10 filibuster records for the Civil Rights Act of 1964.Harry Reid comes in at number 10 in the records of longest filibuster during the debate of stalled judicial nominees in 2003.

I guess its OK to filibuster if its a democrat doing it but not for republicans or independents.

Ain’t that about the size of it?

I think you misunderstand me. Sorry for not being clear. I have no issue with filibuster, but I do with being able to require every vote to be 60 votes to pass simply because someone can say the word “filibuster”. Who changed the rule is not as important to me as the fact that it was changed.

If the filibusterer (is this a word) had to actually talk continually to maintain it, it would be used far less often. It’s too simple to say “filibuster” and take an up-and-down vote and turn it into a super-majority vote, regardless of who’s doing what.

Minority rule is not a good idea in most instances.

“Fact Free”, as usual, doesn’t realize like “roadkill” that Teddy Roosevelt was, while a Republican, more “socialist” than Obama.
