Congress (spelled Beltway Buffoons) told us that they agreed to the sequester to pressure Congressional members to compromise on budget cuts. This has always struck me as a strange course of action because of the consequences of this agreement if compromise was not reached. I posit to you that they passed the sequester to avoid being held responsible for specific cuts. Also, (off subject but related) there must be real fear of the Congressional leadership. I have difficulty believing that the philosophies of the individual members is the reason that they so seldom cross party lines in their voting.
